Weakness of understanding

The WCF acknowledges the reality that Ministers have differing degrees of ability in their understanding of scripture. Not everybody has a full, or indeed, a nearly full, grasp of the scriptures. This means that there has to be some leeway given to Ministers of the Gospel doctrinally. The essentials of soteriology, the sacraments, and the Trinity must be in place, but on many other issues freedom must be granted.

I couldn’t agree more. If the minister is grounded in the essentials of the delivered faith then freedom of conscience, with due right handling of the Scriptures, is to be encouraged, dare I say expected. I hope you and yours are well brother.

I am Roger du Barry, husband of Sylvia, and father to Rhys, Luke, James, Carl, and Matthew. They are 16; 13; 10; 4; and 18 months respectively. I pastor a small church-plant in Farnham, Surrey, in Southern England, called the Farnham Reformed Church.

My preaching is primarily exegetical, with occassional topical sermons when necessary. Our worship is liturgical, using a modern English version of Cranmer’s amazing BCP, and some elements of a Lutheran liturgy, but we are Independent, not CoE. We use this particular liturgy because it is so Biblical and so well thought out.

We are Reformed in our faith. What that means for us is that we have moved away from some of the modern evangelical errors and back to the Reformation and the Bible on the sacraments, worship, and the church.

As we study the Bible from the perspectives of biblical theology and grammatical historical exegesis, God is constantly blessing us with the glories of his word.
